The Parksville & District Chamber of Commerce are pleased to be able to be a host organization for The Province of BC's LiveSmart BC: Small Business Program. The program offers business owners on Vancouver Island the Services of a Business Energy Adviser to conduct an energy audit and advise on how to reduce their energy costs.
The LiveSmart BC Small Business Program is in its 3rd year, and to date over 500 businesses on the North Island, Powell River and the Sunshine Coast have been contacted, with over half of those businesses receiving full energy audits; and of those, we have a record of many businesses that have completed upgrades and one business participated in the Champion Program. In terms of kilowatt hours of energy saved, we estimate that there has been a conservation of close to one million kw hours of electricity saved, as a direct result of participation in the LiveSmart BC Small Business Program in this region.
In addition to saving energy this FREE service saves business owners money.
As well as providing the service, the Chamber is also a participant and have reduced their energy footprint by replacing all light bulbs with LED bulbs and in August of 2013 a solar panel will be installed on the roof of the Visitor Centre, which will reduce heating costs by 55%.
The Program is designed to :
- deliver free energy assessments
- help owners tap into available product incentives and cash rebates, and,
- help co-ordinate product installation.
Once complete, the LiveSmart BC Small Business program is forecast to save businesses across the province over $7 million in utility costs and 82.5GWh of electricity per year, enough to power 7,500 homes. More than 4,000 small businesses are expected to benefit from direct installation and incentives, helping B.C reach its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 33 per cent by 2020.
