Englishman River Falls Provincial Park

Englishman River Falls Provincial Park protects a dramatic stretch of the Englishman River where two stunning waterfalls cascade down the descending riverbed into a deep, forested canyon. It is one of the most scenic and accessible waterfall parks near Parksville, with a well-maintained loop trail (about 3 km total) that leads to viewpoints over both the upper and lower falls and across a photogenic footbridge spanning the gorge.

Beyond the falls, the park is prized for its swimming: below the lower falls sits a crystal-clear pool that is a popular natural swimming hole on hot summer days (note there are no lifeguards). Trails wind through a beautiful old-growth Douglas-fir forest, and there are wildlife-viewing opportunities and seasonal interpretive programs. Leashed pets are welcome, and bikes are not permitted on the walking trails to the falls.

The park has a quiet, forested campground plus a day-use area with picnic facilities, making it a great base or a half-day stop when exploring central Vancouver Island. Practical tips: wear proper footwear as riverside rocks can be slick, stay behind railings near the falls and canyon edges, and visit in spring for the fullest, most powerful water flow. It pairs naturally with a same-day visit to Little Qualicum Falls or Cathedral Grove nearby.
