Parksville Community Park and Beach

City of Parksville

About

Parksville Community Park is the vibrant 39-acre waterfront heart of the City of Parksville, often called "the jewel of Parksville." Fronting the wide, warm-water sands of Parksville Bay, it pairs a spacious sandy beach with extensive parkland, making it a gathering place for locals and visitors alike. The park carries deep cultural significance as a former First Nations settlement site and is recognized as one of the "Ten Amazing Places" in the UNESCO Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region.

The park is packed with amenities and activities. Families come for the huge shallow beach — where the tide goes out a long way over warm sand — plus a large playground, spray/water park, skateboard park, ball fields, walking paths, and picnic areas. It is the venue for Parksville's marquee summer events, most famously the Parksville Beach Festival and its internationally known Canadian Open Sand Sculpting Competition, as well as concerts and festivals throughout the season.

Sitting just west of the Englishman River Estuary, the park is also excellent for nature lovers: spring brings the Brant goose migration, and the estuary and shoreline offer good birdwatching year-round. It is within easy walking distance of downtown Parksville shops and restaurants. Practical tips: parking is free but fills on warm summer days and event weekends, so arrive early, and time a beach visit for a rising tide when the shallow flats warm up.
