Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park

Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park is one of Vancouver Island's most beloved and busiest provincial parks, famous for its enormous sandy beach on the Strait of Georgia. At low tide the ocean recedes almost a kilometre, exposing warm tidal flats and sand that make it exceptionally safe and fun for families with young children. The 2 km beach is backed by a majestic old-growth Douglas-fir woodland laced with about 5.5 km of easy walking and cycling trails.

The park is a haven for wildlife and recreation. It is a key stopover on the Pacific Flyway and a centrepiece of the annual Brant goose migration each spring, making it a superb spot for birdwatching. Visitors enjoy swimming in the shallow warm water, kayaking and canoeing, windsurfing, beachcombing, picnicking, and seasonal interpretive nature programs.

Rathtrevor is also a premier camping destination with over 200 vehicle-accessible sites plus walk-in tent sites, all within a five-minute walk of the beach — reservations are essential in summer as this park books up early. Practical tips: arrive early on hot summer days as day-use parking fills quickly, check the tide tables to time your beach walk, and keep dogs leashed (they are restricted from the main beach in the peak season).
